Man. After getting over the initial shock of the first week of a cleaner lifestyle, this really seems easy. Yes I have the occasional moment of weakness but they are so few and far between that I can literally feel the difference in my body each day…

Cut yourself some slack. If you don't allow small indulgences from time to time, you will crack. Choose a day, a time, and a treat, and thoroughly enjoy it without guilt, then get back on track. Choose your treats carefully, though. Don't waste the…

I'm down 4.4 lbs from last week so I'm tipping at 254.4 at this point. The progress is very encouraging and the choices I make are much easier now. I was just at the grocery and I was famished, but was able to contain myself and have a light salad w…

Dan, stick with it! I get motivated, then life happens and I get demotivated, then it gets warm out or I'll see hot girls in bikinis, and commit to getting active again, then life happens again... The best thing you can do is stay optimistic that yo…

Nice work, Mike. I almost got my butt off the couch Saturday morning to head down and take my chances but knew that I'd never make it through. Just too gassed with the jogging thing. Keep rocking!

I'm still counting points and keeping a food log, but it's becoming easier after 3 weeks to just know what I'm eating. It's also becoming a regular occurrence for me to physically pause and rethink my choices. You know, my downfall is the convenienc…

Best of luck to you!! I've never really been a big soda drinker, so if I have a fountain drink craving, I'll go in and grab an unsweetened iced tea. If you can't drink it unsweetened, try adding Splenda!

If you must have the soda, fill the cup completely to the top with ice, and then add the soda. It will cut your consumption down! :)

I feel like I'm running downhill

Man. After getting over the initial shock of the first week of a cleaner lifestyle, this really seems easy. Yes I have the occasional moment of weakness but they are so few and far between that I can literally feel the difference in my body each day. Not just the way my clothes fit (I've gone down a pant size easily) but in the way it feels when I "pinch an inch".

It was a blessing to talk with my friend Dwight this week. He turns 41 in May and is in horrible physical condition. A great BIG bee… Continue

Progress is good!

I'm still counting points and keeping a food log, but it's becoming easier after 3 weeks to just know what I'm eating. It's also becoming a regular occurrence for me to physically pause and rethink my choices. You know, my downfall is the convenience store. Just stopping for gas is a risk. My brain kept saying "Hey...they have Hostess cupcakes and a milk chug inside". Now my brain is saying "dude, you feel good and you're looking better and the risk to your heart is getting smaller with EACH AND… Continue

Doing better, but not great

Watching weight and changing lifestyles is all consuming and, quite frankly, I get tired of thinking and talking about it. Wife and I started a Weight Watchers thing last week and counting the points is now a new hobby. We both had a pretty good week. I started last week at 260 lbs. and tipped at 258.4 this morning. Would like to have seen more progress but I fell off the wagon last night when we had company that brought a lasagna and ice cream sundae supplies. COME ON! GIVE ME A FAIR SHOT HERE!… Continue

A tardy but decent start

I used to run 2 miles every day. Before kids, it was easy to get up, throw on my headphones and walk out the door at 6:15am to get the exercise out of the way. Now...not so easy and it shows. I'm rolling at around 260 lbs (although people tell me I carry it well) and really want to be at 210. Not too tough IF I could get up and at 'em at 6am.

So I've been able to sleep all night the past 3 nights. That helps my energy level. I've also been pretty good at taking my "man vitamins" for a week or s… Continue

You might notice that all of my tips focus on changes to behaviors that are not dieting. These early tips are all nutritional, but I will be adding some physical activity tips shortly. In any case, why I mention this is because diets don’t work (I w…
